What type of career background would you say the people in the above picture have? They (more than likely) have a communication background. Essentially if you talk, you have a background in communication. In this post, I (the author) will be talking about my personal communication background, mostly relating to my bachelor’s degree.
Background
My communication background started from an early age. Ever since I was a child, I have always enjoyed storytelling. I flexed my storytelling muscle by creating narratives with toys and pretending to be a journalist. As I got older, I began writing stories and formed an interest in making storytelling part of my profession. By pursuing a degree in Strategic Communication, I hope to learn how to create cohesive and interesting stories that reach different audiences.
Expertise
As mentioned previously, I am currently pursuing a degree in Strategic Communication. This degree mainly relates to one specific field: advertising. In my classes, I have learned about different advertising methods and how to maintain brand loyalty among customers. If you don’t know what brand loyalty is, check out this post I made where I defined terms that relate to the communication field of market research (like brand loyalty).
Fields of Interest
As stated, (many times) before, I have a background in communications. However, I want to pursue a career in journalism, as indicated by my minor in the subject. You may be asking yourself “Why do you want to pursue a career in journalism? You’re pursuing a degree in communication for cryin’ out loud!” To this, I say “honestly the journalism major was just too hard.” Legitimately though, the Strategic Communication major gave me more experience in a variety of fields (typically more leaning to advertising), while journalism mainly focused on videography and news writing, which I was not AS interested in. Ultimately, I will end up having to do news writing and videography at some point, at least its less?
